Cristiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United’s starting lineup for Premier League game at Chelsea as Marcus Rashford starts and Jadon Sancho retains his place

Cristiano Ronaldo has started Manchester United’s starting XI for his trip against Premier League leaders Chelsea on the bench.

Acting boss Michael Carrick has chosen to leave the Portuguese star, who has started eight of nine league appearances since returning to Man United at Stamford Bridge.

It’s a courageous move to put Ronaldo on the bench, who has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances for Man United this season

The game is expected to be Carrick’s last game in charge before Ralf Rangnick takes the reins until the end of the season.

And Carrick’s side may well have a roster change from what Red Devils fans are used to with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho the only attackers recognized in the starting XI.

Carrick said: “A few tweaks and changes to freshen things up. Cristiano Ronaldo is your unusual name [to be on the bench]. I had a great conversation with Cristiano and he was great.

The midfielder is made up of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Fred, while Alex Telles, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are in defense.

As for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel has made three changes from his beating of Juventus in the Champions League.

Marcos Alonso replaces injured Ben Chilwell, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaces N’Golo Kante, also injured.

Timo Werner is also back in the starting XI, replacing Christian Pulisic in attack.
