Crime and Punishment in California

As California goes, so does the progressive movement in America, and on Tuesday it suffered a major political rebuke. The recall of leftist prosecutor Chesa Boudin in San Francisco and the rise of mayoral candidate Rick Caruso in Los Angeles are fitting punishments for the progressive policies that have produced growing urban anarchy.

While the votes were yet to be counted, voters returned Mr. Boudin with around 60% of the vote. The prosecutor had entered office as a champion of criminal justice reform, which in practice has proven to be little or no prosecution for crimes that have made the streets of San Francisco a showcase for the drug addiction, vagrancy, homeless camps, shoplifting and assault on the innocent.
