Cricket news 2022, Justin Langer, England men’s coaching job, suitors, Ben Stokes

Australian cricket legend Justin Langer has reportedly been banned from training for the England men’s team.

According to the UK Telegraph, new ECB cricket director Rob Key has overpowered Langer and approached South African Gary Kirsten to become the new Test coach.

The ECB completely cleaned house after a disastrous trip to Australia where England lost the Ashes 4-0 to the Aussies, with Langer coaching the home side.

Langer was then kicked out of the coaching role in his home country but has since raised his hand to take control of the old foe after Chris Silverwood was sacked.

Key, however, had reservations about Langer’s hardline disciplinary coaching style and feared he wouldn’t complement new captain Ben Stokes well.

Langer led Australia through a tough time after the infamous sandpaper scandal of 2018, but in recent months his coaching style has waned on the Australians and it has ultimately cost him his job.

According to the Telegraph report, Key believes Stokes is strict enough not to need a coach of a similar nature.

Stokes is set to be named the new captain this week, replacing Joe Root who resigned earlier this month following a disastrous drop in form for the Test squad.
