COVID 'Over' for illegals at the border, not Americans on planes

Republicans have lambasted the Biden administration following reports that the national public transit mask mandate will be extended for another two weeks.

One lawmaker called the move “hypocritical,” while others pointed to the ineffectiveness of the mandate as well as the recent announcement to lift Title 42 — a public health provision that serves as a critical tool to combat against the spread of COVID-19 and control the influx of migrants to our southern border.

Taking to Twitter, Republican officials expressed outrage at the reports:

“Biden is repealing Title 42 to allow a flood of oft-unmasked, untested, and unvaccinated illegal immigrants from dozens of countries into the United States … while mask mandates remain in effect for the American people,” the rep wrote. Greg Murphy (R-NC), who is also a doctor. “It was never about science.”

“Administrator Biden needs to stop talking out of both sides of his mouth on COVID,” Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) wrote. “They have no problem saying the COVID emergency is over to lift Title 42 and make the border crisis worse, but still use COVID as an excuse to maintain unscientific mandates on Americans.”

“Too many hypocritical BS,” he added.

“So the pandemic is still a big enough issue where we have to wear masks on planes, but not a big enough issue for Biden to be able to lift COVID restrictions on illegal immigration? How convenient,” wrote the representing Jeff Duncan (R-SC).

“The TSA has extended their mask mandates again! If COVID-19 is sufficiently contained to reopen the border, why do mothers still have to impose masks on their asthmatic toddlers? wrote Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL).

“America must move beyond these unconstitutional, unscientific mandates,” he added.

“CDC extends mask mandate for airplanes but drops COVID emergency at southern border,” Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) wrote. “Can they even pretend to follow science these days?

“The last time the CDC said two weeks was two years,” she said. added in another tweet.

“If Biden can lift Title 42, we shouldn’t have to wear masks on planes,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) wrote.

“We can lift the Title 42 public health order at the southern border so illegals can flood our country, but Americans must still wear unnecessary masks,” wrote Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), who is also a doctor.

“And yet Biden’s CDC says the covid emergency is over at the border,” Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) wrote. “End all unnecessary warrants still standing in America, immediately. Whether on an airplane or in a classroom.

“How Does the Biden Administration Justify Extending Mask Mandates While Ending Title 42?” asked Rep. Mike Carey (R-OH).

“Yet they can announce 6 weeks in advance that they are eliminating Title 42 at the border,” wrote Chad Wolf, former acting Trump administration secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “Sad.”

“Biden can’t tell us he’s following the science when Americans are forced to wear masks on planes, but he’s ditching the only tool we have to deport illegal migrants with COVID,” Rep. Pat wrote. Fallon (R-TX) .

“Biden: Extends Travel Mask Mandate,” the official Republican National Committee account tweeted. “Also Biden: No mask mandate to illegally cross southern border.”

“It is truly ridiculous that the CDC has removed covid restrictions for illegal migrants, but will continue to force us to wear masks on planes,” Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) wrote. “The agency has become extremely politicized and shouldn’t have the power to do anything.”

“The Biden administration has announced it will repeal Title 42 on the southern border (because COVID-19 is over) while extending the carry mask mandate for Americans (because COVID-19 is not over ),” Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID ) wrote.

“At the same time, the CDC is rescinding the COVID-19 border removal authority under Title 42, which will allow approximately 18,000 people per day to illegally cross our southern border. It appears the administration believes the threat of COVID-19 exists on planes but not at the border,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) wrote.

“So Democrats want to end Title 42 because the pandemic is over but still have Americans wear masks on public transit. Someone please explain their logic to me,” Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) wrote.

“Politics rather than science,” he added.

“President Biden extends mask mandate on public transportation but ends Title 42 COVID restrictions on our southern border,” Rep. Jake LaTurner (R-KS) wrote.

“The only science Democrats follow is political science,” he added. “It’s time to END all mask mandates!”

“Admin Biden lifts Title 42 for illegal immigrants but expands transit mask mandate for U.S. citizens,” Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) wrote.

“COVID is over for illegal immigrants on the southern border. But not for Americans who travel on airplanes,” the GOP Judiciary Committee tweeted.

Title 42 was invoked by the Trump administration at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, allowing for the expedited deportation of those who illegally cross US borders.

Last week, the Biden administration announced it would end the Title 42 policy in a move that is expected to bring an even larger wave of migrants to the US southern border.

Republicans responded accusing the president of “destroying” the country with a “full-scale invasion” and warning of an impending “migration crisis” the likes of which has never been seen before, with some calling for impeachment.
