Covid in Madagascar: the devastating ravages of the South African variant

© France 24

Since the arrival in early April on the west coast of Madagascar of the South African variant, nearly 13,000 cases and 250 deaths have been recorded, according to official figures which would be largely underestimated. Between oxygen shortages, the lack of drugs and saturated hospitals, the situation seems more and more out of control, despite the relativism displayed by the authorities. The first vaccines are expected at the end of the week on the island. Report by Gaëlle Borgia.
