COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations increasing in Los Angeles County

LOS ANGELES (KABC)– COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Los Angeles County are increasing, according to the latest data.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were about 121 new cases per day in the county. This number is up from the 106 cases per day reported on June 6.

These numbers are believed to be underestimated due to the availability of at-home COVID-19 testing, according to the county public health department.

Hospitalizations also stand at 126 patients per day. The previous figure was 102.

“With increased travel and gatherings over the summer, protection against COVID-19 infection remains important as a new group of variants has begun circulating across the country,” said the county public health department in its latest release.

The Department of Health said so-called FLiRT variants, including the KP.2 and KP.3 variants, are causing a growing proportion of cases in the United States.
