MOORES MILL, Ala. (WHNT) – Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill identified the man who died in a fire Thursday night as Franklin Wade Mitchell, 63.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Berryhill said an autopsy was underway on Friday at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences regional lab to determine the cause of death.

Officials told News 19 crews at the scene the call arrived at 4:22 p.m. Shortly after, firefighters said they found Mitchell and attempted to resuscitate him without success.

Authorities at the scene said it took more than an hour to put out the fire. The fire was mostly contained in the attic, but filled the entire house with smoke. According to HEMSI spokesperson Don Webster, the fire was a “fully implicated house fire.”

Webster told News 19 that the Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to the blaze with Huntsville Fire and Rescue and others for mutual aid.
