Conservative expert points out where the real blame lies for GOP ‘descent into madness’

Conservative expert Max Boot firmly blamed the GOP’s “descent into madness and sedition” on its leadership “or lack thereof” in his latest column for the Washington Post.

Boot torched prominent Republicans worshiping Donald Trump – including parliamentary minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – as “unprincipled opportunists” who have embraced the “whimsical fringe” of their party and let it “be captured by the lunatics”.

“In the past, Republican leaders have resisted the fanatics among them. Today they are fueling the flames of extremism – and wondering why they keep burning themselves, ”wrote Boot, who left the GOP in 2016 to protest Donald Trump.

“Make fun of the Republican base as much as you want. But the real problem is the total abdication of responsibility from the Republican leadership, ”Boot warned.

“Rather than trying to curb the zeal of their most fanatic supporters, they are amplifying it,” he said. “Blame the party elites, not its ranks, for its descent into madness and sedition. “
