Conor Coady hails Bruno Lage’s ‘incredibly exciting’ Wolves appointment, explains what makes Harry Maguire ‘massive’ in England despite injury

Bruno Lage’s appointment as Wolves manager is “incredibly exciting” for the club, captain Conor Coady said.

Wolves have confirmed the appointment of the Portuguese, 45, last in charge of Benfica. He was also an assistant at Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday.

He succeeds Nuno Espirito Santo, who suddenly interrupted his stint at Molineux a few days before Wolves’ last game of the 2020/21 season.

Coady admits being shocked by Nuno’s departure but is eagerly awaiting a new chapter for Wolves under Lage.

“I think it’s always a bit of a shock when your manager leaves. It was a shock when we were told on Friday, ”Coady told talkSPORT.

“But the club is moving forward and we’ve seen a new manager come in, which is incredibly exciting for club football, it’s incredibly exciting for all of us. We all look forward to working under him.

“I’ve spoken to the club a few times which has been great. It’s a really exciting time for club football, we’re all excited because we all want to get better and better.

Coady’s immediate focus is of course on England, with the Three Lions starting their Euro 2020 campaign on Sunday as they face Croatia at Wembley, LIVE on talkSPORT.

Harry Maguire’s absence in training on Wednesday sparked all kinds of debate over who will start at center-back and how many defenders Gareth Southgate will choose to play.

But whatever Southgate decides, England players will be ready, Coady insists.

“He [Maguire] he’s an integral part of this team, he’s an amazing footballer and a brilliant person so it’s fantastic to have around the camp. We know he has that experience of big tournaments and of the Manchester United captain.

“We are ready for anything, we haven’t worked on anything in particular yet, we are ready for whatever the manager wants.

“This team is full of world class players who play in different ways for their clubs, different ways that we are trying to bring each side together that we have and it’s no different now.

“Whichever way the manager wants to go forward, it’s great for us because we know we’re here to improve and to try to win as many games as possible.”
