College Football Playoff Rankings: FSU Ranked No. 5 Heading into Regular Season Finale

Florida State, for the first time since 2014 when the Seminoles made the first-ever four-team playoff, advanced to 11-0 (8-0 ACC) by defeating the Northern Lions. Alabama in its home finale.

The 58-13 victory saw the Seminoles win their 17th straight game, but lose Jordan Travis, the quarterback who helped put together that streak and FSU’s turnaround in the Mike Norvell era, to injury in the season-ending leg during a first-quarter scrum. .

Redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker, who replaced Travis in a comeback win over Louisville last season, had 13 completions, 217 yards and tied a career high with two touchdowns in the win before being replaced by freshman Brock Glenn with the match decided.

The loss of Travis, coupled with a 13-0 deficit to start the game against the Lions, was enough for AP Poll voters to move Florida State from No. 4 to No. 5 behind Washington – in the poll coaches, the Seminoles remained No. 4 but not by much.

The rankings that matter, however, are the College Football Playoff rankings, where the committee is known for taking injuries into ranking teams — Clemson in 2017 and Oregon in 2014 both took the rankings into account. serious injuries in their classification (beneficial and non-detrimental). ).

In the latest edition of the rankings, the committee placed Florida State at No. 5, echoing the AP poll.

Next up for Florida State is a rivalry showdown to close out the regular season, with the Seminoles heading to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators (5-6, 3-5 SEC) in the latest edition of the Sunshine Showdown.
