The Colin Cowherd vs. Baker Mayfield feud is simply out of this world.
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield said Wednesday night he thought he saw a UFO in Texas, which is a pretty common occurrence among NFL quarterbacks, apparently.
Cowherd, the sports talker, has gone on the airwaves for once again (potentially sarcastic?) Berating the quarterback for what he thinks he saw.
Cowherd’s ridiculous take in its entirety:
And on Twitter, Baker Mayfield announced, “I just saw a UFO come down near Lake Travis. And to that I would say… I would prefer, of all the qualities of franchise quarterbacks, I want to know your arm. you good before -snap? Are you mobile? The possibility of seeing UFOs during the offseason is far from my qualifications in the top 10. Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady have never seen aliens I’d rather my guys didn’t talk But in all honesty Aaron Rodgers also admits he saw a UFO and he won a Super Bowl.

Cowherd’s soliloquy is eerily reminiscent of a satirical tweet sent by a Twitter user in response to Mayfield’s UFO tweet, in which the tweet takes on Cowherd’s “voice” berating Mayfield for his close encounter.
“I just don’t like my franchise quarterback encountering aliens in the offseason. Do you know where you don’t have a UFO sighting? The cinema room. Why do you think you don’t hear Tom Brady go The X-Files? He looks at the tape. I mean, cmon Baker. pic.twitter.com/aDQtivROyM

The similarities between Cowherd’s take and the tweet likely point to a hyper-awareness and online connection of Cowherd and his brand of shocking sports speeches – or an astonishing and devastating lack of self-awareness. Either is quite possible.
The feud between Mayfield and Cowherd is long-standing, with the Cleveland QB calling Cowherd a “clown” in the past. Cowherd also absurdly tore Mayfield up for his choice to wear his hat inside out.
In a battle of UFOs, Brown quarterbacks, and gasbags, maybe Cowherd should drop this one.
