Sales of traditional sedans are falling but those of SUVs are progressing: for its new top-of-the-range model, presented on Monday, Citroën has synthesized the two. Long and slender, the C5 X also offers an elevated posture much appreciated by most current drivers. It uses the brand’s new light signature, in V, inaugurated by the new C4.
It will be available with petrol or plug-in hybrid engines, but not diesel. In its electrified version of 225 hp, it should offer a maximum range of around fifty kilometers. 4.80 m long and equipped with a rather generous 545 l trunk, it will be available in the second half of 2021.
Made in china
The C5 X displays its ambitions on the Chinese market, where Citroën has had a series of failures. It will also be manufactured only in China, in Chengdu, and should achieve a large part of its sales there. The Stellantis group, resulting from the merger of Peugeot-Citroën and Fiat-Chrysler, is preparing a plan to come back in force to the world’s leading automotive market. DS, one of the group’s premium brands, intends to relaunch there this summer with a classic luxury sedan, the DS9.
