Christian Scott to be called up to Mets (source)

The team plans to call up right-hander Christian Scott, their fifth and top pitching prospect, during this weekend’s series at Tampa Bay, according to a source briefed on the plans. The team has not confirmed the news.

Scott, a college reliever who was the organization’s fifth-round draft pick in 2021, entered spring training alongside Mike Vasil and Dom Hamel atop the United States’ minor league pitching depth chart. Put on. He then sprinted past both of them with a dominant run of five starts at Triple-A Syracuse.

In his first appearance at the level, Scott went 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings. Although Scott was prone to home runs at Syracuse, allowing seven of them, he didn’t allow much other damage. Mets officials praised his ability to bounce back from home runs and thrive in spite of them.

The Mets are calling Scott now partly because of his success, and partly because they are on a tight schedule with 26 games in 27 days. Scott’s presence will allow them to give their other starters an extra day of rest along the way, while also giving him a taste of the Majors.
