Christian Eriksen’s return to football after his Euro 2020 meltdown is pretty amazing – but now he could be on the verge of signing for one of the Premier League giants.
The former Spurs star helped turn Brentford’s season around after signing on deadline day in January, scoring in the Bees’ 4-1 demolition of Chelsea, as well as four assists during his spell. six months.
But just a year ago today, Eriksen’s chances of kicking a ball again seemed slim.
The Denmark international suddenly collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest while playing for his country against Finland in their Euro opener last summer.
The midfielder survived thanks to quick and expert CPR as well as the use of a defibrillator on the spot, much to the relief of many onlookers who feared the worst.
Eriksen was then fitted with an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) that will automatically restore heart rhythm if a disturbing pattern develops again.
However, the problem was not yet solved.
Following the installation of the device, Eriksen was no longer allowed to play for his then team, Inter Milan, as players with significant heart defects are banned from competition in Italy.

With Manchester City’s cult hero Sergio Aguero having to retire in December due to heart problems, it wouldn’t have been surprising if Eriksen was also hanging up his boots.
But in January, Brentford gave the star midfielder a chance, and the 30-year-old has been getting closer and closer to returning to his best ever since.
So much so that he could play for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League next season.
Eriksen made a name for himself in England after his seven years with Tottenham, scoring 69 goals and providing 90 assists in 305 games.
Now, reports suggest a Spurs comeback could be possible for the midfielder.
Eriksen previously played under north London side manager Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, with the pair winning Serie A together just before the Dane suffered a heart attack.
It is also understood that Eriksen’s family is settled in London.
But while a return to Tottenham seems to be written in the stars, Spurs will have to get rid of competition from Manchester United, who are also interested.
Reports earlier this week suggested United scouts went to watch Denmark’s game against Ralf Rangnick’s Austria, with many theorizing they went to watch the free agent.
And given that Erik ten Hag will have to rebuild the Red Devils midfield with the departure of Paul Pogba and Juan Mata, Eriksen could be the perfect investment for United.
However, despite the upcoming squad overhaul and manager change, talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor believes the Dane should avoid going to Old Trafford after his below-par season.
“I think he would have [Eriksen] make every team better. Imagine playing with him, the errands you might run, he would find you with his passing. the former Aston Villa man said on Wednesday’s talkSPORT breakfast.
“I’m sure he has so many options and we talk about Manchester United, but I don’t know. I think he can do better than United.
The ex-pro went on to say Eriksen would be a better fit for Spurs, anyway, given his relationship with Conte.
It remains to be seen where Eriksen will play next season, but it looks like he will be part of Denmark’s squad for the 2022 World Cup this winter, with him in the Nations League games this month.
“My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar. I want to play,” Eriksen said in an interview with Danish station DR1 in early January.
“That’s been my mindset from the start. It is a goal, a dream.
It is simply amazing that Eriksen is on the verge of coming full circle to return to competing in international tournaments just a year after his collapse.
And wherever he ends up next season, his inspiring recovery is sure to go down in footballing history.
