Chris Wilder confirms Djed Spence’s Premier League desire as Tottenham prepare new transfer talks

The full-back is a target for Tottenham as Antonio Conte offers to bolster another full-back spot after signing Ivan Perisic, who is expected to rival Ryan Sessegnon on the left side.

Spence impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest last season and helped Steve Cooper’s side win promotion to the Premier League, but has since returned to Boro. While the player previously expressed an interest in staying at the City Ground, a move to north London would see Spence playing Champions League football.

Spurs are planning further talks with the Championship side after initial talks took place earlier this summer, with the England Under-21 international believed to be around £15million.

Wilder insists Boro has set a ‘fair price’ and will demand the ‘governing rate’ for such a requested player, amid interest from Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma.

The former Sheffield United boss told BBC Radio Tees Sport: “Well, we want the going rate. The negotiators, with my input, we have set a price and a fair price. We don’t want to hold anyone back.

“Djed has made it clear he wants to go and play in the Premier League, he’s deserved that opportunity which he’s given. You can’t escape the fact that he’s had an amazing season and there’s interest in it, but it must be at this right price.

“If that happens, I’m sure we’ll all walk away happy with the deal.

“We have good players down there, as we talked about in terms of Izzy Jones and his progression last season.

“We have a player who has had a fabulous season and earned his big move awards and we have the going rate for the English-born England U21 right winger.”
