Chris Philp says police will investigate every shoplifting offense | News

Police Minister Chris Philp has pledged that every shoplifting offense will be investigated by officers following a surge in offenses across the country.

His comments come as the John Lewis Partnership said it was facing a £12million rise in the cost of shoplifting and Lidl announced it was stepping up investment in store security by increasing video surveillance coverage and deploying more body cameras.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Mr Philp said: “I’m calling on the police to take a much tougher approach. they always investigate where there is evidence that can be tracked and, in cases of shoplifting, they almost always have CCTV.

“I would like to see every incident investigated.”
