A 3-year-old was killed on Wednesday after two dogs attacked him in his family’s yard, New Jersey officials said.
The toddler fell from a back window of the Elizabeth House into the fenced yard Wednesday around 5:30 p.m., Union County Acting District Attorney Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said. He was then attacked by two dogs, which belonged to his family.
The boy also suffered a neck injury from the 15-foot fall, RLS media reported.
First responders took the boy to a local hospital, where he died about an hour after the attack, according to Ruotolo. The boy’s name has not been made public.
Representatives from a local animal control organization took the dogs, which an Elizabeth spokesperson said will be euthanized, according to NJ.com.
No criminal charges have been filed, Ruotolo said. The breed of the dogs has not been disclosed. Several law enforcement entities continue to investigate the incident.
A neighbor said the boy’s mother attempted to remove the child’s dogs, WPVI reported.
“I can’t believe this happened to a 3-year-old girl,” neighbor Maria Rocha told the TV station. ” It’s a baby. It could be mine, it could be someone else’s. Is it a baby and killed by dogs?
