Chicago street sweeping begins Friday – NBC Chicago

It’s spring cleaning time as street sweeping season officially begins in Chicago.

On Friday, the Department of Streets and Sanitation began its annual effort to clear debris and litter from residential and arterial roadways.

From April to November, the department will deploy dozens of mechanical street sweepers at regular times.

“Keeping Chicago’s streets clean is a top priority for the department, and we work hard year-round to make sure trash and debris are picked up in every neighborhood in our city,” the department’s commissioner said. Cole Stallard, in a statement. “We’re asking residents to help us keep Chicago clean by adhering to street sweeping parking restrictions.”

Bright orange signs will be posted on the streets to alert residents of the temporary parking restrictions put in place to allow for cleaning.

Residents can view the full schedule by visiting the city’s website, calling 311, or following the real-time sweep fleet using the tool located here.
