Chicago has claimed a spot on a new list of the “15 Best Foodie Cities in America,” according to a new Wallethub study. In order to rank the cities, Wallethub says it “compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 29 key foodie-friendliness indicators,” including cost of groceries, affordability, number of high-quality restaurants, number of food festivals, number of breweries and wineries per capita and more.
Overall, Chicago ranked No. 12 on the list, behind Denver but ahead of Washington DC, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
Chicago also snagged first place in the “Affordability and Accessibility of High-Rate Restaurants” category, and tied four other cities – Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas and San Francisco – for 1st place in “Restaurants Per Head”. .”
Portland, Austin, Sacramento, Seattle, Tampa and San Diego round out the other “foodie” cities that scored higher than Chicago.
According to the report, New York came in at 18th.
In other Chicago food news, in a recent Tripadvisor report on the “best of the best” places to eat across the country, ranked by travelers on the platform, the suburban and city favorite, Portillo’s, has earned a place among the best places in the United States for a “quick bite”.
