MANILA, Philippines — Chery Tiggo earned a spot in the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2023 All-Filipino Conference after a thrilling five-set win over F2 Logistics, 27-25, 11-25, 17 -25, 25-22, 15-10, at Philsports Area on Saturday.

The Crossovers unleashed their never-say-die attitude to come from a 2-1 deficit and extend their winning streak to 6 for an 8-1 record, good enough for a spot in the semifinals.

“The character we’re trying to build is here now; this “don’t under any circumstances say die” angle. We were like oysters, already dead but still holding on,” coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said in Filipino.

“We received the first set because we worked for it. In the second and third sets we didn’t lose focus, we just moved irritably. We didn’t know where to scratch, it’s on the left, it’s true, I even scratched my head. It wasn’t us,” he added jokingly.

The Crossovers were mostly left for dead after the third set. After delivering a dreadful second game where they scored just 11 points, the equally led Cargo Movers continued to dominate them in the next period.

Chery Tiggo almost lost his ticket to the semi-finals but Eya Laure, who finished with 19 points, refused to put him in the coffin.

With the score tied at 20 in the penultimate period, Laure went on a personal 5-2 run to win a fifth and the final set was capped by a service ace for the established point .

The deciding set looked a lot like the fourth set where both teams didn’t move a bit until they reached the critical moment.

Besides this time, when Chery Tiggo led by just one, 10-9, Reyes’ wards made sure to be the ones who qualified for the event, limiting the Cargo Movers to just one point since then.

Mylène Paat led the Crossovers in the scoring division with 21 points. Jennifer Nierva, meanwhile, made 27 superb recoveries to help Chery Tiggo’s cause.

F2 Logistics, meanwhile, fell to 4-6 in the standings, but not without the efforts of Ara Galang and Ivy Lacsina, who scored 22 and 19 points, respectively. Majoy Baron herself had a 13 piece, but to no avail.
