Chelsea: Frank Lampard reveals Enzo Fernandez sympathy with big prediction for star under Mauricio Pochettino

The 22-year-old Argentina midfielder joined in a record UK transfer from Benfica in January shortly after winning the World Cup.
Still, the £106million talent was unable to prevent Chelsea from registering their lowest points tally of the Premier League era.
Interim manager Lampard nevertheless underlined his confidence in Fernandez’s ability to justify his price tag and his eight-and-a-half-year contract. He told reporters: “I am convinced that Enzo will play an important role in what happens in the future of this club.
“I feel a little bit for him. He had a massive move to the Premier League. He won the World Cup. He should be sitting at the end of this season rightfully kicking his feet up and saying, ‘ What year”.
“But in terms of how it may affect the future, I see it as essential.”
Lampard, 44, had hoped to galvanize his players given his status at the club but saw only spiraling results. As a result, he blamed the poor results on his players’ lack of fitness, work ethic and ability to do the basics.
Although he clarified not to put Fernandez in this category, adding: “Enzo understands. He gets what is required in training. He gets what is required to be a Chelsea player. He has great talent. Some players just get it.
“I keep talking about giving players time. But when you work with someone, you understand them very quickly, and I think they understand.”

Mason Mount, who is currently injured, could say goodbye with great transfer interest from Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Ahead of the trip to Old Trafford, Lampard revealed he was not surprised his rivals are eyeing Mount. He said: “I’m not surprised because it’s football. Does everyone know that? I really like Mason Mount as a boy and a football player. Yes of course. Of course they do.
“So I wish him the best personally and sitting here with my Chelsea top now I’ve seen what Mason has delivered at this club but then we’ll see.”
