Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has said he ‘didn’t understand’ Timo Werner’s comments which hinted at a possible departure from the club.
The Blues striker recently said he ‘could be happy everywhere’, amid talk he could be on the move this summer.
He added it was “clear” he wanted to play more, having started just 15 league games last season, ahead of the World Cup later this year.
“First of all, the most important thing is that I’m happy. I’m happy when I play and score goals,” Werner said.
” That’s a fact. That’s what I have to take care of and the other things will come. I could be happy anywhere.
“I think of course the manager always has different ideas, different thoughts and what you need in different games, I think in many games I wasn’t in his thoughts, so I try to change that.
“It’s clear that I want to play more and I should play more to be fit for the World Cup first and also to have a chance to play in the World Cup.
“I don’t think it changes anything whether it’s a winter or summer World Cup. I think if I play half or the season or the whole season, I should play.

But Tuchel said he was “surprised” by Werner’s comments and believes the Germany international should be “one of the happiest people on the planet” as he plays for Chelsea.
“I am surprised, I would be very happy as a young man with a contract at Chelsea Football Club. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet,” the Blues boss said.
“He needs to get his playing time. He needs to show quality, take your place and defend your place.
“I would be one of the happiest people on the planet to have a contract with Chelsea. If he said that, I don’t understand.
The striker was reportedly discussed as part of a deal with Juventus’ Matthijs de Light, who eventually signed for Bayern Munich, but his boss says he is still part of his plans for the coming season.
“Of course, he’s our player, of course,” added Tuchel.
