Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Italian giants Juventus has been described as “Harlem Globetrotters football” as Thomas Tuchel’s side advanced to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Juventus barely knew what was hitting them as goals from Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner helped Chelsea pass their opponents in the last 16.
There was controversy surrounding Chalobah’s first game which appeared to hit Antonio Rudiger’s arm as he descended from a corner, but there was no doubt the finish Chalobah hit home, causing a moving celebration.
Juve could easily have been at the same level when ex-Chelsea £ 60million signatory Alvaro Morata put pressure on Edouard Mendy, but Thiago Silva’s experience produced a spectacular release on the goal line.
Juventus had high hopes only 1-0 at the break but that would be it for Max Allegri’s troops who were played out of the park in the second 45.
A temperamental cross into Juve’s box fell on James ten minutes after half-time, and despite the sharp angle, the confident right-back superbly crushed an unstoppable strike.
“[Wojciech] Szczesny, he’s walked right past him and he doesn’t even know he’s there, ”talkSPORT commentator Tony Cascarino said.
And the compliments didn’t end there, with the former Bleu describing Chelsea’s game in the highest possible terms.
“This is Harlem Globetrotters football! Cascarino said when Hudson-Odoi made it 3-0.
In stoppage time it was four o’clock when Werner made a smart move, with Cascarino explaining exactly how the away team must be feeling.
“As a player I have had experiences where I walked off the pitch and said to my teammates’ how good are they? This is what the Juventus players are going through tonight, ”he said.
