Chelsea are looking to give new contracts to Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva, who are expected to be free agents next summer

Thomas Tuchel hopes to keep his four senior defenders who are out of contract next summer.

Chelsea could appear very bare in defense next season with the deals of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva all expiring at the end of June 2022.

Goal reported that Tuchel is keen to keep the four stars and award them new contracts.

The West London team are confident Azpilicueta and Silva will extend their delay, but Christensen and Rudiger’s situations are more complex.

Christensen, 25, has become an integral part of Chelsea’s recent success since his two-year loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The Blues failed to strike a deal with the Danish defender, but talks quickly shifted to keep their academy product at the club.

In contrast, talks over Rudiger’s contract have stalled and are said to be allowed to make pre-contractual deals with other clubs in January.

He was recently linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, which could end his five-year stint with Chelsea.

A Rudiger departure could see Tuchel signing a new defender with Chelsea previously linked with Sevilla star Jules Kounde.
