Chelsea ‘agree personal terms’ with Wesley Fofana, Leicester set to accept world-record offer of over £80m

Chelsea are closing in on another summer signing after agreeing personal terms with Wesley Fofana.

According to the Daily Mail, there is a growing feeling that Leicester City could be tempted to sell the player for the right price.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are desperate to sign another defender after their decision to bring in Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this summer.

It comes after the Blues lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at the end of their contracts, with the duo joining Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

While a replacement is on the doorstep, Fofana is a player who would certainly be an exciting short and long-term addition.

Chelsea have already had two offers of £60m and £65m rejected for the 21-year-old defender but it looks like they won’t be turned down.

With Leicester valuing the player at around £80m, Tuchel’s side will be hoping they can strike a deal to bring the talented defender to Stamford Bridge.

Fofana made 51 appearances for the Foxes, establishing himself as a key player despite missing much of last term with a broken leg.

Brendan Rodgers was asked about the player at his press conference this week, and asked if there was an offer, he said: “Not that I’m aware of. There were two, but again, far of what the club would even think.

Rodgers added: “The point to reiterate is that we are not looking to sell Wesley. He’s not a player we’re actively looking to sell, but naturally if there’s interest from other clubs it’s looked at by the club.

“He’s one of the best young defenders. There aren’t too many at his age. He’s someone we would like to keep here but we’ll have to see what develops.

“Another year here for him at least would be really important for his development, but he is quite calm and relaxed in the situation. He is aware of the interest.

“He understands where we are as a club and where we see him. He continues his work and trains well, and whenever there is communication, we can have a conversation.
