Chelsea agree $110m Ukraine deal – RT Sport News

Londoners sign Mikhail Mudryk after ‘hijacking’ his Arsenal transfer plans

Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of Mikhail Mudryk after beating London rivals Arsenal to a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for the Ukrainian winger. Mudryk, 22, was introduced to fans at Stamford Bridge on Sunday as Chelsea took on Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.

The Blues reportedly agreed to pay €70m upfront for Mudryk and €30m in add-ons (total of $108m). The big outlay comes after Mudryk looked set to move to Arsenal, with the player previously indicating his desire to join the Gunners.

However, Chelsea stepped in to land the youngster an eight-and-a-half-year deal following negotiations involving co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Shakhtar chairman Rinat Akhmetov in Türkiye over the weekend.

In a statement after Mudryk’s decision was confirmed, Eghbali and new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly – who participated in a takeover of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich last May – described Mudryk as “A hugely exciting talent who we believe will be a tremendous addition to our team now and in the years to come.”

Chelsea sanctioned the high fee despite Mudryk only being capped eight times at senior international level and playing 44 times for Shakhtar. The left-winger scored seven goals in 12 Ukrainian Premier League games this season before his transfer, as well as three goals in six Champions League games.

Chelsea fans will be hoping Mudryk can provide an immediate boost to the team as they languish in tenth place in the Premier League table. Blues manager Graham Potter finds himself under pressure just four months after being installed by new owner Chelsea in place of sacked Thomas Tuchel.
