Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace: Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek book FA Cup final date with Liverpool

After a quiet first half in which Thomas Tuchel’s side were lucky not to concede as Edouard Mendy held off a volley from Cheikhou Kouyate, Chelsea sped things up after the break .

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who replaced injured Mateo Kovacic midway through the first half, scored his first goal in three years with a fine volley after Tyrick Mitchell was caught in possession.

Minutes later, Mount linked up with the impressive Timo Werner to create space in a Crystal Palace defense that had been sealed in the first half before going past Jack Butland.

Joachim Andersen might well have given the Palace fans – in high spirits as usual – something to really celebrate but his free header with the score at 2-0 could not be directed towards goal.

In the end, Chelsea’s quality in the tight spaces was the difference, providing one last trophy chance this season.
