The global editor of Tom’s Guide asked ChatGPT why there was an increase in error rates. Here’s what the AI chatbot told him:

“The current rise in error rates for ChatGPT was caused by an unexpected increase in traffic and demand, which resulted in system overloads. OpenAI acknowledged the high error rates as of 11:20 a.m. PDT Pacific Time) and resolved the issue at 1:55 p.m. PT The incident primarily affected ChatGPT’s web and mobile applications, causing various error messages and access issues for users on different platforms. forms. OpenAI’s status page initially cited internal server errors and high demand as the main causes of the outage. It looks like ChatGPT is back. The OpenAI status page is completely green.

Reports from Down Detector have decreased significantly and we are seeing reports that people can use ChatGPT on X and Reddit.

Here’s a fun fact that ChatGPT gave us during our testing: honey never goes bad. Archaeologists have discovered jars of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are more than 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible. Honey’s natural acidity, low moisture content, and presence of hydrogen peroxide contribute to its remarkably long shelf life.

ChatGPT could come back online. Noted by Mark Spoonauer, global editor-in-chief of Tom’s Guide, the service claims to be investigating the outage.

This suggests a “hard refresh” on your browser or Mac application.

Down Detector is still getting reports that ChatGPT is down, but we were able to get it working a bit.

Tom’s Guide Global Editor Mark Spoonauer discovered something pretty funny about X.

As we posted earlier in this live blog, people are now flocking to ChatGPT alternatives. It’s no surprise that #GoogleGemini is now trending on X. One company’s loss is another’s gain, I guess!

A DownDetector user shares his experience. Although you can submit a request on ChatGPT, responses fail to be generated. You will get a flashing black dot instead of a proper response.

X (formerly Twitter) users are still discussing the ChatGPT outage. While some are legitimately frustrated, others (like the user posted above) are trying to take the situation lightly.

Still, if you rely on ChatGPT for your work, I’m sure you’re having a bad Monday. Hopefully this recent outage hasn’t caused serious problems for anyone.

At 4:15 p.m., it still doesn’t work for me, but it looks like it’s trying. When I type a query, in this case, “are you working?” » I get a flashing black dot for a moment, before returning to an error message.

However, Gemini, Claude 3 and Perplexity all seem to work fine.

Update (4 p.m. ET): ChatGPT is still down. It seemed like things were starting to recover a little, but progress appears to have stalled. DownDetector’s comments section is also getting a little spicy now.

“How will I try to use chat gpt to create policy-violating stories if the AI is broken,” ThunderChannel 100 wrote.

“I asked chatgpt when chatgpt will be fixed. Still waiting for a response,” David wrote.

What is ChatGPT? For those of you who clicked on this story and are wondering what it’s all about, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that can do everything from writing articles to creating images, simply based on text prompts that you enter. Although it launched in 2022, it has gained popularity as one of the leading AIs over the past year, as companies such as Microsoft, Google and Apple have rushed to integrate the artificial intelligence in their products.

Our Global Editor, Mark Spoonauer, is really enjoying ChatGPT’s very minimalist interface at the moment. No story. No answers to your questions. You can just sit back and think about what AI could do for you.

The last time ChatGPT went down, traffic to a number of the top ChatGPT alternatives increased and as a result these services struggled to cope with the increased load. Claude from Anthropic and Perplexity all had his troubles; we will also be monitoring them to see if they are affected by this latest ChatGPT outage.

Unsurprisingly, many took to social media to voice their complaints.

This tweet from @Egocrata on X sums up the frustration of many ChatGPT users. “ChatGPT would be MUCH more useful if the damn stupid thing wasn’t down half the time. You can’t count on it at all.”

Comments on DownDetector paint a pretty bad picture of ChatGPT’s latest outage. One ANA user says: “I just used perplexity way better than this trash. »

Several iPhones with different features from iOS 18 Apple Intelligence presented

Last week, OpenAI and Apple announced a partnership that would see ChatGPT integrated into Apple’s AI platform, called Apple Intelligence, in iOS 18. In this implementation, much of the processing will be done on the device, before being transferred to Apple’s servers. .

ChatGPT was taken offline for about four hours on June 4 until engineers were able to resolve the issue, but noted that some users would need to perform a “hardware refresh” to get the service working again.

While we wait for it to come back – again – it’s worth checking out our guide to ChatGPT alternatives – including Claude 3 and MetaAI.
