Channing Tatum prefers the second “Magic Mike” film to the first.
The 41-year-old actor is set to reprise his starring role as stripper Mike Lane in the franchise’s third and final installment, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.”
But Channing revealed that there was almost no sequel to the 2012 movie, as they didn’t think there was enough material to make 2015’s “Magic Mike XXL”, however, it ended up being his favorite of the two.
He said: “In my opinion, we had chewed all the meat on the bone, as far as the story goes. Didn’t plan on doing a second one.
“Then all of our supporting characters were so good and fun that we thought, ‘Let’s make another movie and give these characters more real estate than we didn’t have before. Once we did that, it felt like there was no other story.
“Like getting out of jail. I actually like the second movie more than the first. It’s more fun and I think more about what people expected from the first movie. I obviously like that one too.”
The “Step Up” star also admitted he didn’t like the idea of ”Magic Mike” being made into a live show, but it ended up being his “favorite thing.”
He told IndieWire: “What we learned on the live show was also very interesting.
“I didn’t want to do a live show because I was like, ‘I know this world, it’s kind of dark and weird.’ Our idea was that we could change that, revolutionize that in terms of what that experience could be for women.
“We went out and were successful with women. It was an education. What we did today is my favorite thing we’ve done in our careers. If you ever have time in Vegas, please please go ahead.”
