Cedar Hill Mom is chasing a dream that will take her from school janitor to school administrator – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – For Dania Villatoro-Reyes, 20, it is essential to keep a positive attitude. She says: “Being a single mother was difficult. I don’t want them [her children] see me as a failure.

Dania has two sons, aged 3 and 5. They are his pride and joy.

It was at the start of the COVID pandemic that Dania studied her situation and put a plan in motion. For two years, she worked as a janitor in the Cedar Hill Independent School District. She never lost sight of her list of things she could accomplish. She stayed focused and always believed that success was within reach if she worked hard enough.

In his words, “At first I said, ‘there’s no way I can make it.’ But then I saw myself and I was like, ‘You know what? I don’t want to be a janitor. keeping his job and childcare responsibilities…that’s a big deal.

She explains, “I’m actually the first to graduate in my family, so it was like a big thing for me and seeing my mom be so happy.”

Villatoro-Reyes now has even more to celebrate. Prior to this school year, she was hired as a bilingual attendance attendant at Highlands Elementary School in Cedar Hill.

Director Candice Griffin said, “We’re thrilled to have her and be a part of her journey, wherever she’s headed.”

For Dania, reaching one goal is not enough, setting the next one is essential. In this case, that means one day earning her undergraduate and master’s degrees and becoming a principal herself, because teaching is a job of the heart.

“It just speaks to her character and who she is as a person, to come and persevere every day and do the things she needs to do to move forward for herself and for her family,” said said Griffin.

To anyone chasing their dreams, Dania’s message is, “You’ll get there no matter what. When you are determined to do something, you will do it.
