Footage of a cat enjoying a “laying day” is giving the internet some serious FOMO.
In a video shared to TikTok by @dontstopmeowing on Oct. 30, tabby cat Chase gets a head massage, facial, manicure, soothing steam session and more from his owner Fifi.
Since posting, the cute clip has received nearly 20 million views and 2.7 million likes from TikTik users envious of Chase’s grooming session.
We know long-term stress is bad for us humans, but it’s not good for our feline friends either. According to the Humane Society of the United States, cats can also suffer from “chronic stress,” which affects their quality of life and can lead to illnesses, such as skin problems and urinary tract infections.
Excessive grooming and hiding are common signs that your cat is anxious. However, the Humane Society website states that cats can be “silent victims” without any obvious signs.
There are a few things owners can do to keep their cats from stressing out in the first place. Strong smells may not bother the human nose, but with their keen sense of smell, smells of incense, scented candles, or essential oils can overpower cats.
Loud noises can also make cats anxious due to their keener hearing, while environmental factors, such as lack of social interaction or a messy litter box, negatively affect their emotional well-being. It’s also important to make sure your cat has adequate entertainment and exercise, especially for domestic cats.
“This Kitty is Living the Dream”
In the video, three-year-old tabby Chase is nestled in a luxurious cat bed as steam washes over him. His treatment regimen begins with a head and full body massage with a hand massage tool, which he seems to thoroughly enjoy, followed by a face and ear massage with a jade roller.
Afterwards, Chase receives a facial with a sheet mask, before having cucumber slices applied to his eyes. He then receives a mani-pedi treatment, with Fifi cutting and filing his fingernails. To end her day at the spa, Chase’s fur is brushed to perfection.
Chase lives with his owner Kareem and Fifi (seen in the video) and two cat sisters Skye and Millie. Kareem said Newsweek that Chase “lives to be the center of attention”.
“Chase has had ‘spaw days’ for two years now,” he said.
“We first came up with the idea when we noticed how much he loved getting massages.
“He always liked to be pampered [and] he loves the masseur.”
Kareem said Chase has been “pretty cold his whole life”, with his relaxed demeanor and not just the outcome of his healing sessions.
“[Spa days] are usually given to him as a reward, but since he seems to enjoy it a lot, we might consider giving him one more often,” he said.
TikTok users envied Chase’s day off, with cunninghammm calling him the “luckiest cat alive”.
“These cats are living better than me,” said Carole Audrey.
“We paid for a service like this and this cat gets it for free,” rog wrote.
“This kitty is living the dream,” agreed Ray Ray.
While Ebony Lemon wanted to know, “Where can I sign up for the Chase treatment?”
