Emerging NASCAR driver Carson Hocevar is ready to launch his first season as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series. The 20-year-old Portage, Michigan native was promoted from the Truck Series to the Cup Series and will drive the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports this season.
Spire Motorsports believes in Hocevar’s racing skills, which he demonstrated as a part-time driver with Legacy Motor Club and in a race with Spire last year.
In an interview with NBC Sports, Ryan Sparks, Corey LaJoie’s crew chief and Spire’s competition director, considers Hocevar a standout talent within his generation of drivers.
Sparks recalled the first Hocevar’s Cup race at Gateway, where the driver displayed remarkable skills, even overcoming challenges like a brake failure to make an impressive climb from 26th place to the top 15 on the opening stage. However, Hocevar finished the race in 36th place.
“I think Carson Hocevar is a generational talent. People just haven’t really seen it yet. They saw that car 42 instantly changed its performance when he got into it. When he drove all seven cars at Gateway – we ended up having a brake failure – but he went from 26th to top 15 in the first stage. Just things that don’t usually happen. It’s kind of our job to handle it,” Sparks told NBC Sports.
Carson Hocevar made nine Cup starts last year, mostly with LMC. He impressed everyone with his performance in keeping their cars clean and fighting for the top 10. His best finish of P11 came at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Carson Hocevar has nothing to prove to anyone in Rookie Cup season

“Nothing, at least I don’t think so, has proven to me that I can compete with some of my heroes and my team has more confidence in me than I did before I got more chances this year last. I don’t know what more to prove than public opinion, but that’s when you cross the line. It’s just about realizing our potential as an organization and as a “racing team,” Hocevar wrote on X.
