Carlisle 1 – 0 Mansfield

Omari Patrick’s second-half goal sealed Carlisle’s safety in League Two as they beat Mansfield 1-0.

The Stags’ automatic promotion hopes were again dashed after a third defeat in four matches.

Mansfield led the early stages, with Ollie Hawkins and Jordan Bowery thwarted by smart saves from Mark Howard.

At the other end, Mansfield’s Stephen McLaughlin produced a breathtaking goal-line clearance to prevent Dynel Simeu.

Bowery closed in on Mansfield again when he landed a clean shot inches from the target.

Shortly before the break, a super strike from Mansfield’s Jamie Murphy bounced off the crossbar before the ball was safely cleared.

Mansfield players and staff seemed convinced the ball had crossed the line, but the referee dismissed appeals.

However, Carlisle struck 11 minutes into the restart.

Daniel Devine played into Patrick and he controlled well before firing an angled shot high into the net.

Morgan Feeney nearly made it two when his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Nathan Bishop and Simeu headed into a post as Carlisle was denied again.
