SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The mothers of several Cardinals players got their hands dirty in a community garden in South City on Friday.
Eileen Flaherty. Janice Bader, Andrea DeJong and Jennifer Hicks helped in the gardens of “Rung for Women”, an organization that helps empower women from all walks of life.
“What we were really trying to do was create a community for them to work with each other, love each other, support each other and I think this kind of movement is really going to spread,” Ali said. Hogan, founder of Rung for Women.
“As mothers, what we often do so well is take care of others. We wanted to put our time to good use within the community of St Louis which has been so amazing in supporting our children,” said said Eileen Flaherty, pitcher Jack Flaherty’s mom.
The players were on hand to support their mothers. Half of the food produced in the garden is used at Rung for Women; Urban Harvest gets the other half to use in the community. Volunteer work involves learning to support each other, grow food, and eat healthy.
“We want everyone to know that helping the community is really such an important thing and that in fact when you do that you feel more fulfilled in giving,” said Janice Bader. This is Harrison Bader’s mother.
