Car hits utility pole causing major power outage in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Much of north Huntsville residents woke up without power Wednesday morning after a car accident caused the outage.

According to Huntsville Utilities e-content administrator Todd Long, a vehicle hit a utility pole in the Moores Mill and Chase area around 1:45 a.m.

Long says the utility pole was snapped in half during the crash and utility crews intentionally shut off power to the area in an effort to keep surrounding communities safe.

Huntsville Utilities electrical operations crews responded quickly after the accident and immediately got to work, Long says.

Residents of the affected area are asked to be patient as crews work to remedy the problem.

According to Huntsville Utilities’ outage map, more than 1,300 customers are affected by the outage.
