‘Canelo doesn’t know the facts’ – Ryan Garcia hits back after Canelo Alvarez suggests lack of discipline was the reason for his split with coach Eddy Reynoso

Ryan Garcia has responded to Canelo Alvarez’s comments after his former stablemate appeared to suggest a lack of discipline contributed to his split from trainer Eddy Reynoso.

Canelo remains in the gym with Reynoso – a trainer who has trained him since his professional debut at the age of 15 – while Garcia announced last month that he has now joined Joe Goossen.

At the start of 2021, Garcia knocked out Luke Campbell and had a career-best win over Eddy Reynoso.

The youngster cited the lack of time Reynoso was able to devote to him as the reason for the split, which Canelo disputed.

“I don’t know what happened,” Canelo told ESNews.

“He said he wanted more time, didn’t he?” Eddy has all the time for him.

“He was here Christmas, New Years, everything for him when he fought Luke Campbell.

“So what happened? Something with him, I’m not sure.

“Eddy has time for all fighters, you ask everyone.

“If you are disciplined, if you have time to play sports and train, Eddy will always be there.”

Garcia has only fought once in 2021 – an early January win over Luke Campbell.

He then spent time in the ring due to mental health issues and suffered a wrist injury that kept him from returning later that year.

It’s not the first time Canelo has voiced his concerns over Garcia as he previously warned that the youngster is ‘wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent’.

He is now due to return against Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9.

After seeing Canelo’s latest remarks on Reynoso’s split, Garcia took to social media to respond.

He tweeted: “Canelo doesn’t know the facts.

“The first camp I had with Eddy went very well, then everything went wrong.

“He only showed up two weeks before the Fonseca fight and that’s when I asked my manager to talk to him about finding a new coach.

“Vergil Ortiz left because Eddy never came.

“Frank Sanchez had a fight where Eddy only showed up on fight day, so ask Canelo to explain that to you!

“Let’s stop the back and forth and focus on the fights ahead.

“By the way, I have nothing but respect for Eddy, that’s just the truth.”

He later added, “The truth is also that that’s not even the main reason I left. [and] decided to separate.

“Canelo knows why I’m just going to keep this to myself and focus on the fight I have.”
