Canelo Alvarez is still extremely confident as he embarks on his world title fights.
The pound-for-pound Mexican boxing star was last beaten by Dmitry Bivol but was on a 16-fight unbeaten streak before that.
During this run, Canelo faced some of the biggest names in boxing between super welterweight (154 lbs) and lightweight (175 lbs).
After his narrow win over Gennady Golovkin in 2018, he started to build some serious momentum against champion after champion.
Canelo edged out Daniel Jacobs to win his IBF middleweight world title and knocked out Sergey Kovalev to capture the WBO at light heavyweight.
He then went undisputed and won all four super middleweight belts beating Callum Smith for the WBA and WBC, Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO and Caleb Plant for the IBF.
During this period, Canelo seemed truly unstoppable and it seems he believed 100% that was the case.
Prior to his fight with Saunders in May 2021, the Mexican was planning his wedding to Fernanda Gomez.
Showing no fear, they booked a date just a week after the May fight, when they knew he had to fight.
Even when he knew he would face Saunders – who many saw as a difficult task – Canelo pushed ahead with his plans.
And he was right to do so, as he stopped the Briton late in the eighth and walked out of the fight without even a scratch on his face.
The same couldn’t be said for Saunders, who fractured his eye socket and hasn’t fought since.
In the wedding photos, you would never tell that Canelo had been in a world title unification fight just days before.
Now, following his loss to Bivol, he is scheduled for a trilogy fight with GGG on Saturday night.
It is unclear whether or not he has made plans for the following week.
