‘Canelo Alvarez wants to fight in London in December’ – Eddie Hearn reveals possible opponents with Mexican star likely to make UK debut after Dmitry Bivol and Gennady Golovkin fights

Eddie Hearn has told talkSPORT.com that Canelo Alvarez wants to fight in London at the end of this year and is looking for a British opponent to host him.

The pound-for-pound king of boxing recently signed a two-fight deal with Hearn and DAZN that secured his next two fights.

Canelo will face Dmitry Bivol for the first time on May 7 in Las Vegas and will challenge the Russian for his WBA light heavyweight world title.

If he wins that, he will then return to super middleweight and defend his undisputed crown in a trilogy with Gennady Golovkin on September 17.

After those two fights, Canelo and his trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso have already made it clear that they are considering a third fight to end 2022.

It was previously stated that if he beat both Bivol and Golovkin, Canelo would be looking to explore new territory at the end of 2022.

Mexico and the UK were the two countries mentioned, although Hearn has now revealed that London is apparently the preferred option.

“Canelo wants to fight in London in December,” Hearn told talkSPORT.com’s Alex McCarthy.

“We have the mandatory for his super middleweight championship and the mandatory for his light heavyweight championship.

“So John Ryder or [the winner of] Joshua Buatsi versus Craig Richards. We are well placed to supply him for one of those fights in London.

“Buatsi vs Richards is a fight where the winner can claim to be in these kinds of fights with Canelo.

“At the moment, they are two world-class national hopefuls.

“You have to go out there and be involved in a big fight like this at the O2 to start calling a legend like Canelo Alvarez.

“He’s going to want a dance partner in the UK.”

Canelo Alvarez is currently on the way to being a lightweight for the Bivol fight.

“He looks like a beast,” Hearn continued, “His neck is about the size of my thigh.

“He has really become a little super middleweight in size.

“So when he moves up to light heavyweight, he’s a very small light heavyweight and that’s part of the remarkable accomplishments he’s been going through.

“When he fought Sergey Kovalev he was a faded lightweight. Still a very good medium-heavy, but a bit faded.

“Dmitry Bivol is far from faded, he’s at his absolute peak. Still undefeated, a lot of people are talking about how he could be the best in the division – it’s a tough fight.

“He’s young, hungry and bigger than Canelo, but Canelo is the pound-for-pound king of the sport.

“The confidence he exudes is amazing. If you talked to him you would think he could never lose a fight. He thinks he can beat Oleksandr Usyk, all of them!
