Candace Owens speaks out against Ketanji Brown Jackson nomination: ‘No defence’

Candace Owens has spoken out against Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court, accusing the judge of having a “long history of leniency towards pedophiles”.

During the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings, Senator Josh Hawley grilled Jackson, alleging that she had “a tendency to let juvenile porn offenders off the hook for their appalling crimes, both as judge and as a political decision-maker”.

Conservative commentator Owens reiterated the Republican lawmaker’s claims on Twitter on Tuesday, reacting to his questions about a case involving an 18-year-old defendant.

“This is crazy,” Owens tweeted. “This woman CANNOT be elected to the highest court in the land. Where are the mothers and fathers outraged by her LONG history of leniency towards pedophiles?! #KetanjiBrownJackson.”

Actor Harry Shearer responded to Owens’ tweet by questioning his use of the word “chosen”.

the Candace the host shot back, “Well. Now that you’ve pointed out that I accidentally said ‘elected’ instead of ‘appointed’, I guess we can sweep her entire record of leniency towards pedophiles under the rug.

“Honestly wtf is wrong with you guys? There is NO DEFENSE for freaks who rape children.”

She added: “If I was *appointed* to the Supreme Court, people who even defend people who abuse children would have the book thrown at them. I don’t vote Democrat, so I don’t have the glass. half full view on pedophilia.”

In the clip Owens shared with her first tweet, Hawley is seen saying that Jackson sentenced an 18-year-old to a three-month sentence for viewing sex acts between children aged around ten. less.

Fact checks, including by The Associated Press and The Washington Postfound Hawley’s characterization of Jackson’s record to be misleading.

Jackson disputed accusations that she was soft on child pornography cases, saying on day two of the hearings, “As a mother and a judge who had to deal with these cases, I thought nothing could be further from the truth. .

“These are some of the toughest cases a judge has to deal with because we’re talking about child sexual abuse images. We’re talking about graphic depictions that judges have to read and consider when deciding penalty in such cases.”

Jackson – who is the first black woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court, fulfilling a campaign promise made by President Joe Biden – continued: “There is a law that tells justices what they are supposed to do.

“Congress has decided what a judge should do in this case and any other case when convicting. And this law doesn’t say, just look at the guidelines and stop. The law doesn’t say, impose the highest possible punishment for this sickening and flagrant crime.

“The law says to calculate the guidelines, but also to look at various aspects of this offense and impose a penalty that is, in quotes, sufficient, but no more than necessary to further the purposes of the punishment.

“And in any case, when I’m faced with something like that, it’s important for me to make sure that the perspective of children, the voices of children are represented in my sentences.”

After explaining that she routinely tells defendants at sentencing the impact their actions have had on victims, Jackson added, “Then I impose a significant sentence and all the additional restraints provided by the These people are considering 20, 30, 40 years, years of supervision.

“They can’t use their computers in the normal way for decades. I’m imposing all these constraints because I understand how important, damaging and horrific this crime is.”

Jackson’s Supreme Court confirmation would be historic, but it would not shift the ideological balance of the nation’s highest court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority.
