Canadian musicians in the spotlight as Juno nominees to be announced

Canadian music fans will soon find out if their favorite artists will be competing at this year’s Juno Awards.

Organizers of the annual celebration of local successes are expected to announce the nominees at a press conference this morning in Toronto.

The awards ceremony will take place March 13 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Actor Simu Liu returns as host for the second consecutive year.

Previously announced performers include Calgary pop singer Tate McRae, Nashville Alberta singer Tenille Townes and Punjabi-Canadian viral sensation AP Dhillon.

Rock band Nickelback, who will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, will also perform on the show.

On Monday, before the nominations ceremony, the organizers of the Junos unveiled the rap album or EP of the year in the running. They include Boslen from Vancouver, Classified from Halifax and three rappers from Toronto, Jazz Cartier, Nav and Tobi.
