For date 3 of group G of the CONCACAF – Women’s Under 20 2022 tournament, Canada flourished at home and defeated Trinidad 5-0. Holly Ward (36′ 1T), Serita Thurton (3′ 2T), Keera Melenhorst (12′ 2T), Florianne Jourde (18′ 2T) and Kaila Novak (44′ 2T) were the authors of the overwhelming victory of the local team.
Canada had the chance to increase the difference with the shot of Olivia Smith, who could not convert when the ball hit the post in the 89th minute of the second stage.
Akyla Walcott was the figure of the match. The Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper was instrumental in saving 16 shots.
Holly Ward was also important. The Canadian striker scored 1 goal and shot the opposite goal 6 times.
It was a closely contested match with fouls from both sides.
Canada coach Cindy Tye set up a 3-4-3 strategy with Anna Karpenko in goal; Annika Leslie, Jade Rose and Vivianne Bessette on the defensive line; Lou Tse, Vanessa Frelih, Simi Awujo and Florianne Jourde in the middle; and Serita Thurton, Keera Melenhorst and Holly Ward on the attack.
For their part, those led by Jason Spence stopped with a 4-5-1 scheme with Akyla Walcott under the three sticks; Ashante Wilson-Campbell, Latifha Pascall, Chrissy Mitchell and Moenesa Mejias on defense; Sarah De Gannes, Derisha Bristol, Marley Walker, Maria-Frances Serrant and Darrianne Henry at half court; and Shurella Mendez up front.
Referee Tatiana Guzmán Alguera was selected to carry out the actions of the game.
