Can we build it? Not with Michigan’s dominant salary mandate

Lansing, Mich.

The builders I work with are used to Michigan putting the thumbs up for unions. But we didn’t expect Governor Gretchen Whitmer to go so far as to ignore the law. She unilaterally imposed a wage mandate in effect on the state’s largest construction projects, even though the state legislature officially ended that policy in 2018. The non-union construction companies I represent do not are better able to compete for these contracts in a fair and open manner. And we are not the only losers. Ms Whitmer also illegally sticks it to taxpayers.
