he Africa Cup of Nations is finally upon us after many frustrating delays caused by climate concerns and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

24 teams are playing for glory in Cameroon, with Riyad Mahrez, Said Benrahma and Algeria trying to successfully defend the title they won with the victory over Senegal in Cairo two and a half years ago.

However, the formidable Fennec Foxes – in an incredible streak of 39 games unbeaten – will not lack challengers for their crown, with Mohamed Salah and Egypt hoping to make it a record-breaking eighth continental triumph.

His Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane leads the charge for Africa’s top-ranked team and Senegal favorites, with Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting among the offensive stars for Cameroon, who won the CAN for last time in 2017.

Nigeria lack firepower without Emmanuel Dennis, Victor Osimhen and 2019 top scorer Odion Ighalo, while Wilfried Zaha and Sébastien Haller lead the way for Côte d’Ivoire.

Brothers Jordan and Andre Ayew are still one to watch for Ghana, with Morocco’s firepower coming from Youssef En-Nesyri and Ayoub El Kaabi of Seville.

Gabon are led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been stranded at Arsenal since being stripped of his captain post last month.
