“They had tried to contact him but were unlucky,” the NHS said in its Twitter feed.
It was at this point that PetSmart called animal control officer Kisha Witherspoon, who the NHS said took care of the owner and informed investigator Misty Binau to see what was going on.
Binau went to the owner’s home and did not receive a response either, so she called the police.
When authorities were finally able to enter the residence, “the owner of the animal was found lying in distress in his apartment after suffering a medical episode,” the NHS said.
“We are proud of Officer Witherspoon for his intuition, and of Officer Binau and dispatcher Bieranowski for their prompt follow-up,” the NHS said in the thread. “Well done for going the extra mile!”
