California Republicans invest in “ballot harvesting” in 2024

Republicans once resisted “ballot harvesting” in California, but have now fully embraced the practice and intend to pursue it aggressively in the 2024 elections, according to a CalMatters.org report.

“Ballot harvesting” refers to the collection of absentee ballots by third parties. Although considered a form of voter fraud in most Democratic states, it was legalized in California by the Democratic Party, which controls the state government, and Democrats attempted to legalize it nationwide after 2020.

Today, CalMatters notes, Republicans have decided that since they can’t reverse this practice, they might as well adopt it:

(P) For the 2024 elections, the California GOP is making every effort to collect ballots from voters and drop them off at election offices or polling locations, which is legal in California, under certain conditions.

“These are the rules that were given to us. And we have to follow those rules,” said Jessica Millan Patterson, chairwoman of the California Republican Party. “It makes no sense to just be voters on Election Day. It’s like playing only three quarters of a football match.

For the 2024 elections, the state GOP’s plan focuses on basic efforts: recruiting volunteers to go door to door to build relationships with voters and later collect ballots. vote.

Republicans were shocked in 2018, when Democrats first exploited ballot harvesting in California to flip seven congressional seats. In 2020, Republicans resorted to this practice in a few districts – and, ironically, Democrats opposed it. The result was that Republicans took back several seats and held them in 2022.

Shawn Steel, a Republican National Committee member from California and husband of Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA), told Breitbart News in 2022 that Republicans must “adapt or die.”
