‘No’ leads California recall effort, preliminary exit poll finds
Positive results on handling the pandemic, unfavorable views on the Republican Party and a turnout advantage among Democrats cemented Gov. Gavin Newsom’s efforts to retain his seat in California’s recall election, preliminary poll results show Release. ABC News predicted shortly after polls closed that Newsom would not be recalled, based on preliminary exit poll data and early vote totals. More voters called the pandemic the state’s main problem, 31%, than one of the other four problems proposed in the exit poll – and 80% of those voters supported keeping Newsom in power.
