California Department of Justice investigating fatal shooting by CHP officer on Interstate 105

LYNWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — The California Department of Justice is investigating a CHP shooting on Highway 105 in Lynwood that was caught on camera.
Several videos of Sunday afternoon’s incident are circulating on social media, showing the altercation between the CHP officer and the man in the middle of the roadway.
The video shows the two men struggling on the ground in the middle of the tracks. The video then shows the officer drawing his gun and shooting the man multiple times.
The CHP says the incident began with reports of a man walking on the highway around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Officers found the man crossing the westbound lanes while wearing headphones and talking on the phone.
The CHP officer made contact with the man, then a struggle began which resulted in a shooting.
The man later died in hospital. Westbound Highway 105 was closed for hours while authorities investigated.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Monday that the state DOJ is investigating the incident in accordance with state law. The department declined to comment on the videos or details of the investigation.
