Byron Wien has died, here is his final list of 10 surprises

I have always looked forward to Blackrock’s Byron Wien’s annual “10 Surprises” list and am saddened to learn that he passed away today at the age of 90.

Wien finished his career as vice president of Blackstone’s Private Wealth Solutions, but before that he was a strategist at Pequot Capital, then for 21 years as chief U.S. investment strategist at Morgan Stanley, where he was mostly known. He also wrote the classic book Soros on Soros – Staying Ahead of the Curve.

His final list of 10 surprises (the 38th edition) was published in January and one of them concerned special effects: The Fed remains more hawkish than other central banks and the dollar remains strong, creating a “generational opportunity” for dollar holders to invest in Europe and Japan.

He nailed that one.

Here’s the full list, but along with that, I’m sure Byron would prefer you read his list of 20 life lessons that he published this year.

Rest in peace Mr. Wien.
