Bush to Clyburn: Without Biden’s approval, ‘we wouldn’t have this transfer of power’

Former President George W. Bush called Representative Jim Clyburn a “savior” for supporting current President Joe Biden amid a Democratic primary in which Biden struggled to part ways, Clyburn said in an appeal to journalists on Wednesday.

Clyburn, House Majority Whip and most senior black member of Congress, approved Biden just before the South Carolina Democratic primary, before which Biden was in shock. After that approval, Biden won South Carolina resoundingly and won the Democratic nomination. Clyburn is very influential in South Carolina politics, especially among black voters.

Clyburn said he talked a lot with Bush at Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday and they always “joked with each other.”
