Burnley boss Sean Dyche “unsure if Man City are trying to buy a player or a CLUB” with £ 160million offer for Tottenham striker Harry Kane

Sean Dyche joked that he was unsure whether Man City were trying to “buy a football player or a club” with their £ 160million offer for Harry Kane.

Premier League champions City have – according to reports – agreed a British record amount with Tottenham to sign the England captain.

The rumors stunned Dyche, who joined the talkSPORT breakfast on Friday ahead of the new Premier League season.

When asked cheerfully if Burnley is planning a similar move for Kane, Dyche told Friday’s talkSPORT Breakfast: “To be honest I couldn’t tell if they were buying the club or a player!

“When I heard that, I was like, ‘Really? But who knows.

“He’s a top player, however.”

Dyche knows how difficult it is to recruit players during the summer transfer windows.

The Clarets’ only senior arrival so far has been veteran goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on a free transfer from Crystal Palace.

But Dyche is hoping to add to his squad ahead of Burnley’s top-flight campaign against Brighton on August 14.

He said: “When the new owner arrived they made it clear that they wanted to build the club.

“They’re not going to pay the money and say, ‘just keep going’. The club must therefore still be fairly diligent. We are still in a particular market.

“We don’t offer contracts like many other clubs do, so we have to work hard on that side. We can’t afford a lot of hiccups.

“Every player we sign has to do something and operate at the club. It’s been tricky over the years, but we’ve found our way and we have some really good players who are here right now.

“We need to improve the level a bit, we need a bit more quality in some areas and we definitely need body because we are a bit short.

“I’m used to working like this, so we’ll see what the market brings. We are not very often in a position where we get the top picks because the money goes too high.

“We are often the first and the first! We’ll see if we can get the players we think can help us.
